NATO Tiger Meet 2008 : the Ocean Tiger
L’ultima edizione del NATO Tiger Meet si è svolta presso l’aerostazione dell’aviazione navale francese ed organizzatrice è stata la Flottille 11F equipaggiata con Super Etendard nella versione “modernisé”. L’evento 2008 avrebbe dovuto essere ospitato dai tedeschi del 1./JaboG-32 di Lechfeld, ma già prima della chiusura del Tiger Meet 2007, svoltosi presso la base norvegese di Ørland, era parso chiaro che a causa dei molteplici impegni operativi in programma nel 2008, l’unità di base a sud-ovest di Monaco non avrebbe potuto seguire a dovere l’organizzazione del meeting.La disponibilità subito mostrata dai “Tigers” di Landivisiau, dovuta anche al fatto che in giugno non sarebbero stati imbarcati sulla portaerei nucleare Charles De Gaulle ferma in porto, è stata prontamente accolta dal comitato NATO che gestisce l’associazione, evitando si interrompesse nuovamente una tradizione cominciata ufficialmente nel lontano 1961, quando il 79th Tactical Fighter Squadron organizzò il primo Tiger Meet sulla RAF Woodbridge.Il NATO Tiger Meet è una esercitazione a cui partecipano reparti che hanno una tigre o un grosso felino come emblema, durante la quale vengono effettuate missioni di volo comuni, ed organizzate competizioni basate su aspetti operativi e di folklore, alle quali partecipa sia personale di volo che di terra.
Per ogni competizione viene assegnato un trofeo, che a Landivisiau è stato vinto dai seguenti team :

Quest’ultima edizione, oltre ad avere visto un folta partecipazione, è stata impreziosita da numerose colorazioni “special” messe in mostra da quasi tutti i partecipanti, e dalla “prima volta” per i Grippen cechi di Caslav ed i Saab 105 austriaci di Linz-Hörsching.

Tutte le foto a corredo del report sono state scattate in occasione dello “spotter day” organizzato venerdì 27 giugno dalla Flottile 11F. Domenica 29 il pubblico indistinto ha potuto varcare i cancelli ed assistere ad uno spettacolare air show a cui hanno partecipato la Patrouille de France, velivoli storici che in passato volarono con le insegne dell’Aeronavale, e naturalmente i “Tigers”.

2008 NATO Tiger Meet : The Ocean Tiger
The last NATO Tiger Meet edition took place at the Naval Air Station of Landivisiau in Brittany, north-east of France, from 22nd to 29th of June. Host and organizer unit was Flottille 11F which is flying the Super Etendard ( modernized version ). The 2008 event was scheduled at Lechfeld, home base of the Luftwaffe 1./JaboG-32, but already before the end of the 2007 Tiger Meet edition, at the Norwegian air base of Ørland, became obvious to the organizers like the German unit, located at south-west of Munich, would not be able to host the 2008 edition because of the operational commitments scheduled all through the following year. The availability showed by the “Tigers” of Landivisiau, usually flying on board of the nuclear attack carrier Charles De Gaulle, but meantime the event operating from their home base because of the vessel would be stopped in the dock, was quickly achieved by the NATO official organization. So it’s been avoided a second interruption of a tradition officially initiated in the distant 1961, when the first NATO Tiger Meet edition started at the RAF Woodbridge organized by the 79th Tactical Fighter Squadron. So the NATO Tiger Meet is an exercise between units sporting a badge showing a tiger or a big cat family. All through the meeting pilots have scheduled to fly sorties in a batch of a/c from different units, more some competitions have carried out by flying and ground personnel with operative and folk aspect.

The last edition has got a large participation from the present members of the NATO Tiger Association, more it was made precious for the enthusiast with many special colour a/c from almost all participating units, and with the “first time” of the Czech Air Force JAS-39s from Caslav and Austrian Air Force Saab 105s from Linz-Hörsching.
