I "Thunderbirds" ad Aviano - 2011 - The "Thunderbirds" at Aviano AB
The show season of the America’s Ambassadors in Blue this year has included an European Tour and few days of staying at Aviano AB. Unfortunately Thunderbirds haven’t performed any show at the 31st FW home-base, on the contrary Saturday and Sunday afternoon, June 11-12, the Team has delighted some hundred-thousand of spectators along the Jesolo’s sea-front, as part of the Jesolo Air Extreme 2011 air-show. Thunderbirds landed at Aviano from Romania Thursday 9th of June and some members of the Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group had the opportunity to attend landing and the choreographed ground activities of the personnel displaying precision and excellence in the U.S. Air Force. This last presence at Aviano AB of the Thunderbirds has been the fifth one over almost 30 years of flying the Lockheed-Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon. In the seventies the demonstration team came at Aviano only one time in 1971 and performed the exhibition flying the famous F-4 Phantom and first of that in 1963 flying the North-American F-100C Supersabre, the first supersonic a/c in the USAF inventory. The U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron represents nearly 700,000 Airman serving the Air Force all over the world, and the European Tour is a opportunity “to illustrate the selfless commitment and visible pride America’s Airmen have in what they are doing, and what they stand for, both at home and overseas”, as Lt. Col. Case Cunningham said with the presentation of the 2011 show schedule. … and they really do that.
