AFG Celebra i Primi 30 Anni di Attività
Giovedì 28 marzo 2024, l’Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group ha festeggiato assieme al 555th Fighter Squadron i primi 30 anni di attività. Su iniziativa dello Squadrone è stata organizzata per l’AAFG una “visita speciale” che ha riscosso grande interesse ed eccitazione tra i partecipanti, perché è stato possibile accedere alla sala dove i piloti in appositi scomparti hanno il proprio equipaggiamento di volo, dal casco con i dispositivi oculari di visione notturna, all’abbigliamento di volo indossato a seconda che vengano effettuate missioni di volo su terra oppure sul mare, dalla imbragatura anti G che consente al pilota di sopportare alte accelerazioni (fino a 9-G) senza perdita di conoscenza, ai semplici scarponi e guanti di protezione. Non è mancata la possibilità per un giovane socio, di indossare l’intero equipaggiamento e provare cosa significa, attorno alle proprie gambe e corpo, il funzionamento del dispositivo anti G.
La visita speciale è poi proseguita con il walk around a un F-16C del 555th Fighter Squadron appositamente predisposto, e infine terminata presso la Nickel Heritage Room con il taglio della torta celebrativa, accompagnata da un buon brindisi augurale.
Tutti noi ricordiamo che l’attività di AAFG cominciava 30 anni fa proprio con il 555th Fighter Squadron “Triple Nickel”, organizzando nella sala conferenze di AAFG il primo di numerosi incontri tenuti con le varie componenti di volo del 31st Fighter Wing , a cui partecipò l’allora Comandante dello World Famous Highly Respected 555th Fighter Squadron, Lt. Col. Stephen L. Hoog, successivamente generale a tre stelle, numerosi piloti e le rispettive mogli.

AAFG Celebrates the First 30 Years of Activity
On Thursday April 28, 2024, the Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group had the honor of celebrating the first 30 years of activity together with the 555th Fighter Squadron “Triple Nickel”. On the initiative of the Squadron, a “special visit” was organized for the AAFG’s members which met great interest and enthusiasm among the participants, because it was possible to access the room where the pilots have in single compartments their flight equipment, the flight helmet with night vision devices (NVG – night vision goggles), the flight clothing worn by pilots depending on whether flight missions are carried out on land or at sea, the anti-G suit which allows the pilots to withstand high acceleratons (up to 9-G) without loss of consciousness, as well as simple boots and protection gloves. There was no lack of the opportunity for a young AAFG’s member to wear the entire flight equipment and experience how the anti-G suit works around his own legs and body.
This “special visit” then continued with a “walk around” of an F-16C of the 555th Fighter Squadron specially prepared for the enthusiast participating guys and finally ended in the Nickel Heritage Room, where a celebratory cake was cut and, accompanied by a good “prosecco”, fully appreciated.
We all remember that the AAFG’s activity began 30 years ago among the 555th Fighte Squadron “Triple Nickel”, organizing the first of numerous meetings held with various components of the 31s Fighter Wing in the AAFG conference room. That first meeting had the honor of participation of the Commander of the World Famous Highly Respected 555th Fighter Squadron, Lt. Col. Stephen L. Hoog, later a three-star general, numerous pilots and their wives.
