Celebrazione del Centenario dell'Aeronautica Militare ad Aviano 28/3/2023 

Italian Air Force Centennial Celebration at Aviano, March 28, 2023

Martedì 28 marzo 2023, alcuni componenti dell’Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group, hanno avuto l’opportunità di presenziare, all’Aeroporto Militare di Aviano, alla giornata commemorativa in occasione del 100° Anniversario della Costituzione dell’Aeronautica Militare Italiana.

On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, members of the Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group had the opportunity to attend the commemorative day at Aviano Military Airport to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Italian Air Force.

In presenza delle più alte cariche civili e militari della Provincia di Pordenone si è svolta la cerimonia per la celebrazione del Centenario dell’Aeronautica Militare Italiana iniziata con il saluto di benvenuto ai presenti del Comandante del’Aeroporto “Pagliano e Gori”, Colonnello Navigatore Marco Schiattoni, subito dopo aver passato in rassegna lo schieramento del personale dell’Aeronautica,segue l’alzabandiera solenne, in presenza dei Labari e Gonfaloni di molte Associazioni combattentistiche e d’arma e il Picchetto d’Onore, quindi la deposizione di una corona d’alloro in ricordo dei caduti della forza armata. Successivamente il Comandante ha invitato tutti al Circolo Unificato per l’inaugurazione della mostra storiografica, allestita nell’adiacente sala, che ripercorre tutta l’evoluzione dei cento anni di storia della Aeronautica Militare.

In the presence of the highest civil and military officials of the Province of Pordenone, the ceremony for the celebration of the Centenary of the Italian Air Force began with a welcome greetings by the Commander of the "Pagliano e Gori" Airport, Colonel Navigator Marco Schiattoni. Immediately after reviewing the deployment of Air Force personnel,followed by the solemn flag-raising, in the presence of the Banners and Banners of many Combatant and Armed Forces Associations and the Honor Guard, then the laying of a laurel wreath in memory of the fallen of the armed force. Afterwards, the Commander invited everyone to the Unified Club for the opening of the historiographic exhibition, set up in the adjacent hall, which traces the entire evolution of the 100-year history of the Italian Air Force.

Per l’occasione, nel grande piazzale dell’aerobase, è stata allestita una mostra statica con vari velivoli civili, tra i quali spiccavano un insolito Antonov AN-2, un Cessna L-19 Bird Dog della guerra del Vietnam, un Soko G-2 Galeb e un bel esemplare di Fieseler Storch, il 31st Fighter Wing ha messo in esposizione un HH-60G Pave Hawk, alcuni mezzi terrestri delle Forze Speciali e l’F-16CM Special Color del 510° Fighter Squadron (Buzzards), così colorato per commemorare gli 80 anni dello Squadron, vista la giornata di sole spettacolare è stato subito circondato e immortalato da fotografi e appassionati. Completavano l’esposizione, sullo stesso piazzale anche 55 fuoriserie Ferrari di varie epoche, provenienti da tutta Europa e una trentina di grosse motociclette della Ducati. C’è stata pure la possibilità di assistere a vari decolli dei locali F-16 AV per missioni di routine e il sorvolo di un Eurofighter dell’AM.

A static display of various civilian aircraft was set up for the occasion in the airbase's large apron, including an unusual Antonov AN-2, a Cessna L-19 Bird Dog from the Vietnam War, a Soko G-2 Galeb, and a fine example of a Fieseler Storch. The 31st Fighter Wing put on display an HH-60G Pave Hawk, some Special Forces ground vehicles and the F-16CM Special Color of the 510th Fighter Squadron (Buzzards), so colored to commemorate the Squadron's 80th anniversary. Given the spectacular sunny day it was immediately surrounded and immortalized by photographers and enthusiasts. Also completing the display on the same apron were 55 Ferrari sport cars of various eras from all over Europe and 30 large Ducati motorcycles.
There was also a chance to witness several takeoffs of local F-16 AVs for routine missions and a flyover of an AM Eurofighter.

Nel 1911 nasce ad Aviano la Scuola Militare d’Aviazione, nel 2015 viene chiusa la Scuola per riservare il Campo alle squadriglie da combattimento per gli imminenti eventi bellici. Nel 1920, su proposta di Gabriele d’Annunzio, l’Aeroporto viene intitolato agli intrepidi piloti Maurizio Pagliano e Luigi Gori. Dal 1931 al 1936 Aviano diventa Scuola Caccia e Scuola Pilotaggio di 2° Periodo, dove vengono formati piloti delle diverse specialità, Caccia e Bombardamento. Nel 1937, fino al 1941, viene costituito ad Aviano il 18° Stormo Bombardamento Terrestre. Dal 1° gennaio 1939 viene costituita la Regia Scuola di Bombardamento Terrestre che terminerà l’8 settembre 1943 con la firma dell’Armistizio. Dal 1943 al 1945, l’Aeroporto viene interessato da varie vicissitudini, occupazione tedesca e insediamento dell’ANR (Aviazione Nazionale Repubblicana). Dalla fine della II GM e dopo l’occupazione dell’Aeroporto da parte degli alleati, nel 1947 viene restituito all’Aeronautica Militare, viene diviso in due parti, quella a nord viene ripristinata e ristrutturata, mentre quella a sud viene ceduta in uso all’Esercito Italiano, che vi insedia il 132° Reggimento Carri. In agosto 1952 il 51° Stormo Caccia si trasferisce da Treviso ad Aviano, con il 20° e 21° Gruppo, seguiti dal 22° Gruppo alla fine del 1953 e resteranno ad Aviano fino al 1954. Dal tardo 1954, l’utilizzo del “Pagliano e Gori” viene concesso alle forze aeree degli Stati Uniti, diventando così base di rischieramento dell’USAF. Il 1° di aprile del 1994 viene ri-attivato ad Aviano il 31st Fighter Wing, con uno Squadrone di velivoli F-16, Il 555th Fighter Squadron “Triple Nickel” e dal 1° luglio 1994 viene ri-attivato anche il 510th Fighter Squadron “Buzzards”, sempre su F-16. Il 14 giugno 2018, ad Aviano vengono inoltre basati il 56th e il 57th Rescue Squadrons, su HH-60G-Pave Hawk.

Short history of Aviano's "Pagliano and Gori" Airport.

In 1911 the Military Aviation School was founded in Aviano; in 2015 the School was closed to reserve the Field for combat squadrons for the upcoming war events. In 1920, at the suggestion of Gabriele d'Annunzio, the Airport was named after intrepid pilots Maurizio Pagliano and Luigi Gori. From 1931 to 1936 Aviano became the 2nd Period Fighter and Pilot School, where pilots of the different specialties, Fighter and Bombardment, were trained. In 1937, until 1941, the 18th Terrestrial Bombardment Wing is established at Aviano. From January 1, 1939, the Regia Scuola di Bombardamento Terrestre was established, which would end on September 8, 1943, with the signing of the Armistice. From 1943 to 1945, the Airport was affected by various vicissitudes, German occupation and the establishment of the NRA (National Republican Aviation). Since the end of World War II and after the occupation of the Airport by the Allies, in 1947 it was returned to the Air Force; it was divided into two parts, the northern part being restored and renovated, while the southern part was given for use to the Italian Army, which established the 132nd Tank Regiment there. In August 1952, the 51st Fighter Wing moved from Treviso to Aviano, with the 20th and 21st Groups, followed by the 22nd Group in late 1953 and remaining at Aviano until 1954. From late 1954, the use of "Pagliano and Gori" was granted to the U.S. Air Force, making it a USAF re-deployment base. On April 1, 1994, the 31st Fighter Wing was reactivated at Aviano, with a Squadron of F-16 aircraft, The 555th Fighter Squadron "Triple Nickel," and from July 1, 1994, the 510th Fighter Squadron "Buzzards," also on F-16s, was also reactivated. On June 14, 2018, the 56th and 57th Rescue Squadrons, on HH-60G-Pave Hawks, are also based at Aviano.
