510th Fighter Squadron Change of Command “Buzzards”
The 510th Fighter Squadron Change of Command Ceremony took place Monday 2nd of June 2025 inside hangar #1 at Aviano AB. The Lieutenant Colonel Leo M. Moore IV relinquished command of the Squadron to Colonel William D. Lutmer, 31st Operations Group Commander, who gave the guidon of the 510th Fighter Squadron to the incoming new Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Brent A. Smith
Lieutenant Colonel Smith is the Chief of Safety, 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa AB, Japan. He leads a team of 11 occupational, aviation and weapons safety professionals in mishap prevention and investigation, and advises commanders of all levels on safety policies, procedures, and activities across a joint bilateral installation hosting 9,900 members and 32,000 annual flight operations by U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, Japan Self Defense Force and Japanese commercial aircraft.
Lieutenant Colonel Brent A. Smith has held a variety of assignments at the squadron, group, wing and Headquarters Air Force levels. Lt. Col. Smith flew 69 combat sorties and more than 300 combat hours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Prior to his current position, Lt. Col. Smith was Director of Operations, 13th Fighter Squadron, Misawa AB, Japan.
A team of the Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group was present to welcome the new Commander, and deliver him the 2025 Calendar.

Cambio di Comando al 510th Fighter Squadron “Buzzards”
La Cerimonia del Cambio di Comando al 510th Fighter Squadron ha avuto luogo lunedì 2 giugno 2025 presso l’hangar #1 dell’Aeroporto Pagliano e Gori di Aviano. Il Tenente Colonnello Leo M. Moore IV ha restituito il comando al Colonnello William D. Lutmer, Comandante del 31st Operations Group, che ha passato la guida dei “Buzzards” al Tenente Colonnello Brent A. Smith.
Il Tenente Colonnello Smith è stato Capo della Sicurezza al 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa AB, in Giappone. HA guidato un team di 11 professionisti sulla sicurezza riguardante gli aspetti aeronautici e degli armamenti, impegnati nella prevenzione e nell'indagine degli incidenti, fornendo consulenza ai comandanti di tutti i livelli su politiche, procedure e attività di sicurezza, in un'installazione bilaterale congiunta che ospita 9.900 membri e 32.000 operazioni di volo annuali da parte di U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, Forza di Autodifesa Giapponese e velivoli commerciali giapponesi.
Il Tenente Colonnello Brent A. Smith ha ricoperto diversi incarichi a livello di squadrone, gruppo, stormo e Quartier Generale dell'U.S. Air Force. Il Tenente Colonnello Smith ha effettuato 69 missioni di combattimento e accumulato oltre 300 ore di combattimento a supporto dell'Operazione Enduring Freedom.
Prima del suo attuale incarico, il Tenente Colonnello Smith è stato Direttore delle Operazioni del 13th Fighter Squadron, Misawa AB, in Giappone.
Un team dell'Aviation Friends Group della Base Aerea di Aviano era presente per dare il benvenuto al nuovo Comandante e consegnarei il Calendario AAFG 2025.
