31st Fighter Wing Change of Command “Return with honor”

The 31st Fighter Wing Change of Command Ceremony took place Friday 11th of July, 2025, inside hangar #1 at Aviano AB. Brigadier General Tad D. Clark relinquished command of the 31st Fighter Wing to Major General Paul D. Moga, Commander of the Third Air Force, who then handed over command of the Wing to Colonel Beau E. Diers with the traditional passing of the guidon.
Gen. Clark has been the final General officer to command the 31st Fighter Wing, the future commanders will hold the rank of Colonel. From remarks of the Presiding Officer, Maj. Gen. Moga, “… when the decision was made a little over a year ago by headquarters Air Force to transfer almost all of our Wings across USAFE-AFAFRICA and the force from Brigadier General billets to Colonel billets …. Gen. Hecker and I sat down to discuss the change, Gen. Hecker said there was only one person he felt was best fit to lead this transition, Col. Beau Diers. …..You are about to inherit another gifted, highly talented leader and commander”.
Col. Diers is command pilot with more than 3,400 flying hours in the T-37, (AT)T-38 and F-16. His past assignment include Squadron Commander, Director of Operations, United States Senate Legislative Fellow, USAF Weapons School Instructor Pilot, Chief Wing Standardization and Evaluation, Flight Commander, F-16 Flight Examinator and both Squadron and deployed Wing Weapons Officer. Col. Diers has flown over 1,300 combat hours in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, UNIFED PROTECTOR, ENDURING FREEDOM, RESOLUTE SUPPORT and INHERENT RESOLVE executing Close Air Support, Suppression of Emeny Air Defenses, Offensive and Defensive Counter Air missions. Prior this assignment, Col. Diers was Deputy Commander of the 31st Fighter Wing.
A warm welcome to Col. Diers, who took command of the “Return with Honor” Wing joining on the Wing’s new command team, Deputy Commander Col. Michael Kingry and Command CMSgt. Tiffany Griego.
Brig. Gen. Clark leaves Aviano AB after three intense years commanding the 31st Fighter Wing, the only USAFE wing south of the Alps. These years culminated with the 31 Years Celebration of the 31st FW's reactivation at Aviano. A huge thank you, General Clark, for the sincere friendship you have shown over these years to AAFG.

Cambio di Comando del 31st Fighter Wing “Return with Honor”

La cerimonia di cambio di comando del 31st Fighter Wing si è svolta venerdì 11 luglio 2025 all'interno dell'hangar #1 della base aerea di Aviano. Il Generale di Brigata Tad D. Clark ha ceduto il comando del 31st Fighter Wing al Maggior Generale Paul D. Moga, Comandante della 3rd Air Force, che lo ha poi trasmesso al Colonnello Beau E. Diers attraverso il tradizionale passaggio dello stendardo del Wing.
Il Gen. Clark è stato l'ultimo Generale a comandare il 31st Fighter Wing; i futuri comandanti avranno il grado di Colonnello. Dalle parole del Maggior Generale Moga "...quando, poco più di un anno fa, il quartier generale dell'Air Force ha deciso di trasferire quasi tutti i nostri Stormi in USAFE-AFAFRICA e il comando da Generale di Brigata a Colonnello, il Generale Hecker e io ci siamo seduti per discutere del cambiamento, il Generale Hecker affermò che riteneva ci fosse solo una persona più adatta a guidare questa transizione, il Col. Beau Diers. ... Bene, state per ereditare un altro leader e comandante dotato di grande talento".
Il Colonnello Diers è un pilota comandante con oltre 3.400 ore di volo su T-37, (AT)T-38 e F-16. Tra i suoi incarichi precedenti figurano Comandante di Squadrone, Direttore delle Operazioni, Membro Legislativo del Senato degli Stati Uniti, Pilota Istruttore alla Scuola Armamenti dell'USAF, Capo della Standardizzazione e Valutazione di Wing, Comandante di volo, Esaminatore di volo per F-16 e Ufficiale Armamenti sia di Squadrone che di Wing rischierato. Il Colonnello Diers ha accumulato oltre 1.300 ore di volo in combattimento a supporto delle operazioni IRAQI FREEDOM, UNIFED PROTECTOR, ENDURING FREEDOM, RESOLUTE SUPPORT e INHERENT RESOLVE, eseguendo missioni di supporto aereo ravvicinato, soppressione delle difese aeree nemiche e missioni di contraeree offensive e difensive. Prima di questo incarico, il Colonnello Diers è stato Vice Comandante del 31st Fighter Wing.
Un caloroso benvenuto al Colonnello Diers, che ha assunto il comando del Wing "Return with Honor" unendosi al nuovo team di comando del Wing, il Vice Comandante Colonnello Michael H. Kingry e il Comandante dei Sottufficiali Chief Master Sergeant Tiffany N. Griego.
Il Generale di Brigata Clark lascia la base aerea di Aviano dopo tre intensi anni al comando del 31st Fighter Wing, l'unico Wing della U.S. Air Forces Europe Air Forces Africa a sud delle Alpi. Questi anni sono culminati con la celebrazione del 31-esimo anniversario della riattivazione del 31st Fighter Wing ad Aviano. Un immenso ringraziamento, Generale Clark, per la sincera amicizia dimostrata nel corso di questi anni all’AAFG.
