20a EDIZIONE DELLA FESTA DELL’AMICIZIA ITALO AMERICANA - 11 Settembre 2021
La Festa dell’Amicizia Italo-Americana è stata quest’anno ospitata a Roveredo in Piano, uno dei Comuni limitrofi l’Aeroporto della Aeronautica Militare di Aviano, presso il quale dal 1994 risiede stabilmente il 31st Fighter Wing, unica unità aerea della U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa a sud delle Alpi. La data è coincisa con la ricorrenza dell’attentato terroristico alle torri gemelle, a New York, tanto che l’evento ha assunto un doppio significato, di ricordo delle vittime e di celebrazione dei primi 20 anni della Festa della Amicizia, appuntamento nato all’indomani della tragedia del 11 settembre 2001 su iniziativa dell’Associazione Comandanti Onorari di Squadrone.
Sabato mattina 11 settembre, in piazza Roma, ha avuto luogo la cerimonia celebrativa, che è iniziata con gli Inni nazionali italiano e americano, l’alzabandiera e la deposizione di una corona d’alloro al monumento dei Caduti, congiuntamente effettuata dai Vigili del Fuoco del Comando Provinciale di Pordenone e dai “Firefighters” americani del 31st Fighter Wing. E’ poi seguito un momento di preghiera profuso dal parroco di Roveredo in Piano, don Ruggero Mazzega, e dal frate cappuccino Michael del 31st Fighter WIng. Il saluto del Sindaco di Roveredo in Piano, Paolo Nadal, ha aperto gli interventi del Comandante dell’Aeroporto di Aviano, Colonnello Pilota Luca Crovatti, del Comandante del 31st Fighter Wing, Generale di Brigata Jason E. Bailey, del Comandante Provinciale dei Vigili del Fuoco, Ingegnere Giovanni Greco, e del Presidente dell’Associazione Comandanti Onorari di Squadrone, Roberto Hellweger Barichello, che hanno sottolineato come i due temi, del ricordo e della amicizia, siano stati entrambi fondamentali nel cementare l’amicizia tra le comunità italiana ed americana nel corso di questi anni.
Sfortunatamente, causa le restrizioni imposte dalle norme di sicurezza sanitaria anti-COVID, anche l’edizione di quest’anno si è svolta in forma ridotta, cioè senza quelle iniziative sportive, conviviali e di spettacolo che hanno contraddistinto l’evento fin dai primi passi. E’ stata però allestita in Municipio, dall’Aeronautica Militare, Comando Aeroporto di Aviano, con la collaborazione delle associazioni Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group e 31° Aviano Tail Spotters Group, la mostra fotografica intitolata “20 ANNI INSIEME”, con l’intento di ripercorrere attraverso le immagini dei velivoli, residenti del 31st Fighter Wing e di quelli in transito nella base aerea, del personale americano ed italiano dell’Aeronautica Militare, il comune impegno e lo spirito di dedizione profusi nel corso di questi vent’anni di attività aerea comune.

The Italian-American Friendship Festival was this year hosted by the Municipality of Roveredo in Piano, one of the municipalities bordering the Aviano Air Base of the Aeronautica Militare, which hosts the 31st Fighter Wing, the only air unit of the US Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa at south of the Alps. The date coincided with the anniversary of the terrorist attack on the twin towers, in New York, so the event took on a double meaning, in memory of the victims and in celebration of the first 20 years of the Friendship Festival, the appointment born in the aftermath of the 11 September 2001 tragedy with the initiative of the Honorary Squadron Commanders Association.
On Saturday morning 11 September, in Piazza Roma, the celebratory ceremony took place, which began with the Italian and American national Anthems, the raising of the flag and the laying of a laurel wreath at the monument of the Fallen, jointly carried out by the Vigili del Fuoco of the Comando Provinciale in Pordenone and by the American "Firefighters" of the 31st Fighter Wing. This was followed by a moment of prayer expressed in the name of the two communities, by the parish priest of Roveredo in Piano, Don Ruggero Mazzega, and by the Capuchin friar Michael of the 31st Fighter WIng. The greeting of the Mayor of Roveredo in Piano, Paolo Nadal, opened the speeches by the Aviano Airport Commander, Pilot Colonel Luca Crovatti, by the 31st Fighter Wing Commander, Brigadier General Jason E. Bailey, by the Provincial Commander of the Vigili del Fuoco in Pordenone, Engineer Giovanni Greco, and by the President of the Association of Honorary Squadron Commanders, Roberto Hellweger Barichello, who underlined how the two themes, memory and friendship, has been both fundamental in cementing the friendship between the Italian and American communities over the years.
Unfortunately, due to the restrictions imposed by the anti-COVID health safety regulations, this year's edition also took place in a reduced form, that is, without those sports, convivial and entertainment initiatives that had distinguished the event from the very beginning. However, the Italian Air Force, Aviano Airport Command, with the collaboration of the Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group and 31 ° Aviano Tail Spotters Group, has set up the photographic exhibition entitled "20 YEARS TOGETHER", with the intent to retrace through the images of the resident aircraft of the 31st Fighter Wing and of those in transit at the air base, of the American and Italian personnel of the Air Forces, the common commitment and the spirit of dedication lavished during these twenty years of aerial activity together .
